Blogging is hard…

Hello! It’s been a terribly long time since I last posted here. I’m sorry. Sometimes I wonder if it’s bad luck or something to make posts like “We’re SO back, baby!” because it seems like that’s when life immediately gets busy and then we are definitely NOT back…baby…

Right…

So…now that I’ve finally remembered I have this space to talk in, I wanted to give you all an update on where I’ve been, what I’ve been doing, and where my head is currently at as far as photography goes.

Where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to…

Home. I’ve been home. I am a mom, after all. My boys just wrapped up school in May and now we are thoroughly enjoying summer vacation. I haven’t done much in the way of photography except the Spring Scott Spouses fundraiser which was very interesting but that’s a story for another time. We took a week long vacation to Jellystone Park in Pittsfield, Illinois and I discovered a love for kayaking! Turns out, I’m pretty good at it. I also discovered that my Insta360 3s camera is indeed waterproof. The action pod, however, is not… But that meant that I suddenly had a very strong reason to finally get a dehumidifier cabinet for my gear so now I finally have a proper place to store my stuff AND it should do a decent job of getting (reasonable) amounts of moisture out of my gear. (I think I have thoroughly killed the action pod. I’m not sure there’s even a way to resuscitate it. It needs way more than a bowl of rice. It…it’s just dead. Rest in peace, action pod…)

My last post was made in October and I don’t think I mentioned this at the time but my husband was deployed. He’s back now and life is getting back to normal but there’s a lot we’re still trying to sort out. Without going into detail, the best way I can put it is that every aspect of deployment life is hard and takes time to recover from.

Where my head is at…

Without being poetic or dramatic, the gist of it is that I feel stuck. While photography is still my passion, I haven’t been able to do much to practice it. From time to time, someone in the wild will find my website and reach out, and that always is a pleasant surprise. However, it’s got me thinking that if I don’t do something soon, my hard earned skills are going to rust and I hate the very thought of that. I want to do more but more of…what? I still haven’t been able to decide on an area to focus on.

Our camping trip last month really got me thinking. It was so peaceful to be out on the lake and I really wished that I’d felt prepared/comfortable with bringing my camera gear with me. And though it may be a while before I’m able to get out on the lake again, I’ve been really thinking that I actually enjoy being a tourist.

So as far as where my head is at, it’s “travel”. I’d like to do more travel photography.

Now that June is over and July is beginning, there are a few places I’ve got plans to visit. I’ll definitely be bringing my camera along to document the journey. And who knows? Maybe I’ll find that irresistible spark along the way?

Well, that’s going to be it for now. As always, thank you so much for your love and support.

Until next time! Bye-bye!
